REACH
REACH Summer Nurse
Why work for REACH this summer?
Come be a part of a passionate team of professionals working to help change students’ and families’ lives! REACH, through a transformative middle school program, empowers high-achieving young men from underserved communities as Catholic leaders committed to faith, scholarship, and service. A summer and Saturday access program run through Regis High School, REACH serves students whose families demonstrate significant financial need.

In the summer, REACH serves ~200 boys from the 6th to 9th grade, with the ultimate aim of placing each student in a Catholic high school with scholarship and financial aid. Each summer REACH sponsors and directs two residential sessions that run concurrently for three weeks on two, separate university campuses: Fordham University in New York City (~55 students), and at the University of Scranton in Northeast Pennsylvania (~ 150 students). We carry a faculty and staff of ~25 employees at Fordham and ~35 employees in Scranton. This summer, both residential programs will run from July 6th - July 26th.
We are searching for one nurse to work with us at Fordham, and one to work with us in Scranton.
Both nursing roles are residential positions, though we can be flexible if the residential component is prohibitive. Nurses at both Fordham and Scranton are provided with comfortable housing in university apartments and three meals per day in the university dining hall.
What are the responsibilities of a REACH Nurse?
REACH is seeking to hire a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Nurse Practitioner to provide basic nursing care to students and staff during our 3-week sessions at Fordham and in Scranton. The job responsibilities for the nurse position include maintaining student files, ensuring the proper administration of prescribed and over-the-counter medication, advising students on healthy dietary and hygienic habits, providing care for the routine medical needs of the students and staff as they arise, and arranging clinic or hospital visits for students when needed. In addition, the nurse regularly communicates health issues to the program director, coordinates the care of students among staff, and communicates with parents by phone when necessary.
What are the details?
  • The Scranton and Fordham nurses each receive a stipend of $9000 for the summer.
  • The 2024 REACH @ Scranton and REACH @ Fordham sessions run from July 6th to July 26th.
  • Office space within the university residence hall is available for a health office/clinic. The nurse holds office hours Monday-Friday from 7:00 – 8:00am (morning medication distribution), 6:30 – 8:30pm and 9:00 – 10:00pm (evening medication distribution). The nurse attends breakfast (8:00am), lunch (11:30am) and dinner (5:30pm) with the students and staff, and may attend weekend field trips.
