Regis Gathers for Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Service

Craig Newton ’20

The Regis community gathered Friday for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Service, organized by the Belonging, Dignity, and Justice Committee. Student and faculty members led the school in prayer, song, and reflection, while Craig Newton ’20, a mentor in the Rise Program for Regians who will be first-generation college students, returned to 84th Street to deliver remarks.

“Dr. King’s work is not done,” said Newton. “He urged again and again that all of us come to love and befriend one another to live in brotherhood and reconciliation, to nourish each and every individual’s dignity and self-respect. We must, and we can, all be drum majors for justice. This is our duty and glory as Regians.”

The Regis Jazz Band provided music for the prayer service, closing out the program with a performance of “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” accompanied by a choir of student singers.
