19 Regis Seniors Named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists

On September 15, the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced the names of this year’s semifinalists in the 67th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Included in the roughly 16,000 high school seniors in the running are 19 Regians, recognized for their exceptional academic accomplishments and pursuits of excellence.

Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program began the process as high school juniors, who took the 2020 PSAT/NMSQT Exam as an initial screening. 16,000 students were ultimately selected, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. Students will now compete for approximately 7,500 National Merit Scholarships offered next spring, worth nearly $30 million.

In addition, 21 Regians were recognized as National Hispanic Recognition Scholars, and 6 were recognized as National African American Recognition Scholars. Including students in both their junior and senior years, these programs were developed by The College Board in order to connect students from underrepresented communities with national universities, award them recognition for their academic achievements, and create pathways to college. 49 Regians were also recognized as National Merit Scholarship Commended Students.

Winners for the National Merit Scholarship program are expected to be announced beginning in April 2022, and will join more than 362,000 other students across the country who have earned this distinguished honor.
