Position
As an Alumni Service Corp - Hearn Speech & Debate Associate, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to work with exceptional young men, talented faculty, and dedicated staff. Located in New York City, Regis High School is a Catholic, Jesuit, college preparatory school and the only Jesuit, full-scholarship high school in the country. The school was founded in 1914 through the extraordinary generosity of an anonymous woman and her family. Regis now thrives on the philanthropy of alumni, parents, and friends as its most significant source of financial support. Regis prioritizes academic excellence while nurturing a spirit of generosity and service to those in need. Position Summary
The Hearn Associate focuses on ensuring speech and debate opportunities for our one hundred and eighty member Hearn Society. Regis seeks a qualified candidate to join its faculty and staff as a Hearn Associate beginning September 2024 for the Academic Year 2024-2025. This is a full-time, 10-month position, with benefits. Work hours may vary and will include some evenings and weekends for school events. The 2024-2025 school year for faculty members ends on June 14, 2025.
Job Responsibilities
  • Chaperoning and judging at weekend speech and debate tournaments.
  • Coordinating speech and debate practices.
  • Supervising and evaluating research for debate cases; reading debate outlines.
  • Supervising and evaluating articles for extemp (current events) filing.
  • Writing extemp questions for tournaments.
  • Supervising research for and the editing of original oratories.
  • Coordinating the selection of appropriate dramatic and humorous material for the interpretive categories.
  • Training of Hearn judges.
  • Coordinating the logistics of the multiple tournaments hosted by Regis.
  • Supports and is willing to advance the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the school.
  • Works in collaboration with the administration in observing the principles and ideals for which Regis High School stands.
  • Any other assigned tasks.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Strong organization and communication skills
  • Familiarity and or prior experience with high school speech and debate
  • Strong independent work ethic with attention to details
Education
A bachelor’s degree is required.
Status
This is a full-time, 10-month position.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range $2,500.00 monthly. Most benefits go into effect immediately.
Other expectations
The school expects one to conduct oneself at all times in a manner which shall not bring reproach upon oneself or the school.
