Regis Repertory Performs Inherit the Wind for the Scopes Trial Centennial

The Regis Repertory took the stage from December 11–13 for its production of Inherit the Wind, the dramatization of the Scopes Monkey Trial. The Rep's performances commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 1925 trial.

The production — led by Regis Rep moderator Ms. Gena Reisig and director Ms. Maura Malloy — showcased the skills of actors from Regis and actresses from other local schools.

“We wanted to do this show this year specifically because this is the 100-year anniversary of the Scopes trial, and the fundamental issues in the trial still have much relevance in today’s world," said Ms. Reisig. "Not only were we lucky enough to put together an amazing cast and crew to bring the show to life, but we are supremely grateful to be the only organization in all of the New York City area to obtain the rights to put on the production this year.”

The success of the performances was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the stage crew, set designers, musicians, tech crew, and stage managers.

"There is no community like the Rep," said Brendan Hirshorn '26, a member of the cast. "Since I joined my sophomore year, it has been a source of profound friendship and creative expression. The Rep draws from the diverse Regis community, including many sister schools, and we unite in the common goal of giving the very best of ourselves so that together we can bring the production to life and entertain the audience."
